Biographie
Hugo Tierny holds a Ph.D. in Military History, Defense and Security from the École Pratique des Hautes Études – PSL, and is a Research Fellow at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IAO) at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. His research focuses on Chinese strategic and geopolitical thought, particularly in its naval and Eurasian dimensions, as well as on cross-Strait relations and military balances in East Asia. He holds a Master’s degree in China Studies from National Chengchi University (Taipei) and studied Mandarin at the Mandarin Training Center of National Taiwan Normal University. He has collaborated with several research institutions in Taiwan and publishes regularly on China’s security dynamics and the strategic tensions surrounding Taiwan. He currently teaches Chinese and East Asian history and geopolitics at the Institutes of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Lille and Lyon, and continues his research on the People’s Liberation Army at the Strategic Research Institute of the Military Academy (IRSEM).
