Biographie

Professor of Sociology at the University of Rennes 2, Claude Weber is Director of the “Defence and Society” domain at IRSEM.

Trained as an ethnologist, he holds a PhD in social sciences from Université Marc Bloch de Strasbourg (2000). He has worked on military issues for over thirty years, focusing on both organizational aspects and relations between the armed forces, the state, and society. His research lies within military sociology, with a particular interest in military cultures, organizations, and more recently, leadership within the French Army.

He taught and led the Department of Sociology at the Académie militaire de Saint-Cyr from 2003 to 2024. He is also involved in several research organizations, including as President of Ergomas and Head of Working Group 05 “Armed Forces and Society” within the Association Internationale des Sociologues en Langue Française.
